Mother to newborn and infant transmission of hepatitis B infections.

چکیده
A review of maternal transmission of HBV infections revealed that transmission rates are high in many countries in Asia, due mainly to the high prevalence of carriers and high HBeAg rates in these carriers. Transmission can occur in the anteparturn, intrapartum and postpartum periods. About 90% occurs at the time of birth, and 5-10% are the result of in-utero infection. 90% of newborns infected at this age become chronic carriers. Maternal transmission is responsible for about 40-50% of the pool of carriers in Asia, for clustering of carriers, chronic liver disease and primary hepatocellular carcinoma, and is a continuing source of the virus. The role of the HBeAg, anti-HBe and changing patterns in the ability of infected newborns and young females to respond to HBV infections is also discussed.

Integrating HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis screening and treatment through the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health platform to reach global elimination targets
Every year, an estimated 180 000 babies in the Western Pacific Region are infected by hepatitis B, 13 000 by syphilis and 1400 by HIV through mother-to-child transmission. (1) These infections can be largely prevented by antenatal screening, treatment and timely vaccination for newborns. Despite challenges in controlling each disease, major achievements have been made. National immunization pro...

OBJECTIVE To study the factors influencing mother-infant vertical transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV). METHODS A total of 635 pregnant women with chronic hepatitis B or chronic asymptomatic HBV carriers were enrolled. The rate of HBV infection was compared between the infants born from the pregnant women of different HBV-DNA load, different ways of delivery and different liver functions a...
متن کاملViral Infections in the Fetus and Neonate
Neonates, like older children and adults, are subject to viral infections acquired by horizontal routes, such as those due to influenza, rotavirus, and enteroviruses. They also are at risk for acquisition of viruses through routes that are unique to the perinatal setting where mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) occurs transplacentally, during birth, or from breast milk. The ability of certain ...
متن کاملPerinatal transmission of hepatitis G virus (GB virus type C) and hepatitis C virus infections--a comparison.
Hepatitis G virus (HGV) infection is more common than hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and is frequently found in healthy individuals. Although parenteral spread of HGV is well recognized, other routes of transmission probably occur as well. In a prospective study of mother-to-infant transmission of hepatitis viruses, 69 pregnant women with antibodies to HCV and their 81 newborn children were ...
